WHAT WE DO

Grazing School of the West (GSW) is a multidisciplinary nonprofit organization providing educational opportunities, vocational training, and advocacy in prescribed grazing for increased climate resilience across the American West.

GSW provides accessible agricultural education that addresses the specific needs of varied landscapes using an ecologically-prescriptive approach to sheep, goat and cattle grazing.

Our values of connection, cooperation and curiosity are embedded in everything we do.

Our mission is to educate, train and connect the next generation of land stewards in prescribed grazing as a tool for climate resilience, wildfire prevention, and regenerative food and fiber systems. Our work is grounded in the belief that land, animals, and people are deeply interconnected, and that resilient ecosystems depend on cooperative, community-centered approaches to stewardship.

WHY WE DO IT

Our vision is to create a culture of CARE for the land, for animals, and for each other.

WHO WE SERVE

We aim to create a safe place to learn for a diverse community of people with various learning abilities and styles, including:

  • New and emerging grazing practitioners and individuals working for grazing operations

  • Existing operators seeking to refine or adapt practices in response to ecological, economic, or community needs

Grazing-curious agriculturalists, and food & fiber producers exploring grazing as part of their work

Professionals in fire mitigation, conservation, and land management learning alongside practitioners in shared settings
